A TINY COMMUNITY
Volume Zero Design Architecture Competition | 2019

In northern-central Cambodia, Kompong Phluk Floating Village faces challenges due to its remote location, lacking of schools, hospitals, and pagodas. The community depends on fishing and tourism, migrating twice a year due to seasonal water level changes, disrupting their social structure. "Read with the Sky" is a floating library prototype designed as a community hub, providing education and attracting tourists. Spanning less than 200 sqm, it incorporates local, reusable materials like cross-laminated wood and recycled corrugated plastic, ensuring sustainability while reflecting the area's traditional stilt-house architecture. This project serves as both a functional and iconic solution, fostering resilience and preserving the community’s spirit.
