National Library of Cambodia
2nd Winner | Architecture Competition 2016
Amidst the towering skyline of Phnom Penh, near the historic Wat Phnom Pagoda, stands a library rich with history yet yearning for renewal. Nestled in a prime urban setting, this aging structure holds untapped potential—its spaces are underutilized, and its design is overshadowed by modern high-rises.
This renovation project seeks to breathe new life into the library, seamlessly blending the old with the new. Divided into two zones, the design preserves the existing charm while introducing a contemporary extension that maximizes natural light, panoramic views, and energy-efficient solutions. By incorporating louvers for ventilation, strategic shade, and a thoughtfully curated landscape, the revitalized library will offer visitors a tranquil, inspiring space—a sanctuary of knowledge and creativity in the heart of the city.
