This concept study represents my initial exploration of ceiling design for a Kyoto project undertaken during my training at an international Architecture Firm, KKAA, in Tokyo, Japan. The existing structure in Kyoto provided a unique opportunity to integrate local heritage and natural elements, challenging within the constraint of a maximum ceiling height of 2.5 meters. The primary objective of this ceiling design is to evoke the atmosphere of Kyoto’s forests within the built environment and a hand-made fabric, creating a harmonious interplay between light and shadow, and balancing the man-made with the natural. This prototype exemplifies the seamless connection between architecture and nature, aligning with the firm’s philosophy of merging tradition with modernity.
